South Australians are now able to more easily purchase a McLaren supercar with the launch of the brand’s newest showroom Down Under.
The fourth McLaren Automotive showroom in Australia – McLaren Adelaide – has officially opened its doors, despite having already been in operation for the past few months.
The location in Australia’s fifth most populous city joins the existing Sydney, Melbourne and Gold Coast showrooms in the network. Poor old Perth, Australia’s fourth most populous city, will have to wait, while Brisbane residents will just have to drive an hour south for now.
McLaren is hoping the extra retail presence will improve sales after the brand experienced its first downturn last year since launching here in 2011. In contrast, Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche all increased their sales last year.
Zagame Automotive, which also operates McLaren Melbourne, has opened the new location on Glen Osmond Road in Frewville, south-east of Adelaide’s CBD. The brand shares showroom space with Bentley, Lamborghini and Lotus, while also offering pre-owned cars through the McLaren Qualified Programme.
The additional dealership should help reverse McLaren’s downward sales trajectory here, as should the arrival of the upcoming GT model. The elegant grand tourer will reach our shores late this month, joining the Sports Series and Super Series supercar families in Australian showrooms.
The GT is the next model in a planned onslaught of products, McLaren Automotive investing £1.2 billion ($A2.14 billion) in delivering 18 new models by the end of 2025 under its Track25 plan. The GT is the third model released this year as part of that plan, coming after the 600LT Spider and the track-only Senna GTR.
