It’s a sharper take on the familiar look.
An alleged logo for the eighth-generation Chevrolet Corvette leaked in February, and model’s Facebook page has now confirmed that the emblem was the real deal. The company even released a video showing how the ‘Vette’s famous crossed flags badged has evolved over time.
The new logo eliminates the acutely V-shaped area between the flags. The banners now share a vertical section, but the checkered flag and Chevy logos still come out diagonally. The video below shows how it looks during the new Corvette’s startup animation.
The newly unveiled emblem is part of a flurry of information coming out about the eighth generation of the sports car from the annual Corvette Bash in Bowling Green, Kentucky. According to John from Midengine Corvette Forum, who was in attendance, Corvette chief engineer Tadge Juechter spoke about the Zora Arkus-Duntov stickers that were on the ‘Vette in photos with General Motors CEO Mary Barra. After initially getting resistance, he printed them anyway, and the head of GM communications gave him the go-ahead to stick a few onto the car just before Barra got there.
The presentation also revealed that Chevrolet has built over 100 C8 Corvette test mules. The engineers destroyed some of them for safety evaluations.
Chevy also recently announced adding 400 new jobs and a second shift for building the ‘Vette at the Bowling Green factory. During the Corvette Bash presentation, Juechter said the expansion came from the projected C8 sales rate.
The Bowtie won’t unveil the mid-engined Corvette until July 18. We expect the model to launch with a naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 making around 460 horsepower (343 kilowatts) and running through an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Later, higher horsepower variants would reportedly broaden the lineup.
